Accra, Nov. 21, GNA - The National Co-ordinator of the Ghana School Feeding
Programme (NSFP), on Thursday called on the Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council
(RCC) to assist investigations into the alleged poisoning of foodstuff being stored in the
warehouse of the programme in the region.
Alhaji Suleman Abdul Rahman suggested the need for the Regional Security Council to
liaise with the RCC to get into the bottom of the incident, which occurred at Kodie in the
Kwabre East District.
He expressed surprise about the incident, saying but for the vigilance of the staff of the
NSFP a number of pupils would have lost their lives by eating toxin meals.
Alhaji Rahman, who made this known to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, said the
culprits broke into the warehouse but failed to steal any item.
"The caterers and other staff of the programme suspected foul play and therefore
inspected the food items and found that they have been laced with poisonous substance that
smelled like DDT."
The national co-ordinator said the incident was reported to the police who had taken over
the investigations.
"The programme takes a serious view about the incident and disassociates itself from the
criminal intent.
"The SFP had also launched its own investigations into the matter. Who ever is found
culpable must face the full rigours of the law," he said.
In a related development, media reports linked the incident to Boaman where the alleged
poisoning of food items meant for the preparation of meals for about 900 school children of
the Local Authority primary School under the NSFP.
