Nyaho Tamakloe officially launches campaign To contest Greater Accra NPP chairmanship

Dr. Nyaho-Nyaho Tamakloe, the firebrand New Patriotic Party (NPP) founding member, yesterday launched his campaign to officially declare his intention to contest the Greater Accra regional chairmanship position of the party, at Ashaiman.

Going on record as the first candidate to launch his campaign in the region, Dr. Tamakloe hinted to a packed to capacity NPP supporters in the Ashaiman constituency and beyond that NPP is battle ready to match the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) boot for boot in the 2012 general elections.

He hinted that the NDC is practicing what he described as collective punishment of NPP members. “Until the party takes power again, we are constrained by an oppressive regime that is a reincarnation of the brutal AFRC and PNDC regimes that striped our mothers and sisters at Makola market naked, and caned them on their buttocks”, he noted.

Dr. Tamakloe explained that the NPP's ability to take back power from the NDC to a large extent, depends on the performance of the party in the Greater Accra region, and that is why it is important that someone who is tried and tested like himself, should be given the mandate to run the affairs of the region.

According to him, history has shown that when the NPP won the Greater Accra region in 2000 and 2004 elections, they won the national elections as well, and when they lost in the Greater Accra region in 2008 elections, they also lost political power to the NDC. “We are in the state of siege, and that is why I seek your mandate so that together we can return the elephant to where it rightfully belongs, in the seat of Government”, Dr. Tamakloe said.

He added, “I will tell you what I will do for the party; I will work tirelessly with our committed and hard working constituency executives and foot soldiers to ensure that Greater Accra contributes its quota in terms of votes, so that the party takes power in 2012”.

Flanked by party stalwarts including Prof. Mike Oquaye -MP for Dome-Kwabenya, Yaw Osafo Marfo -former Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Albert Otchere -former Municipal Chief Executive of the Ashaiman Municipal assembly (ASHMA) and Eric Kwatia –former regional executive of the party, Dr. Tamakloe revealed that his decision to contest the election is to help the party to regain power and return Ghana to the path of development in freedom.

The party stalwart stressed that when voted to the position, he would ensure that no single NPP foot soldier who has toiled in the trenches would be left behind. “We have learnt our lessons and I can a sure you that there will be no repetition of the causes of our defeat in the past election. That is why I believe in reconnecting the party with the grassroots and wish to practice the concept that no foot soldier must be left behind”, he stated.
