Farmer in court for defrauding physically-challenged man

By GNA

Kade, Nov. 19, GNA - A farmer, David Aselivi, 32, has appeared before the Kade District magistrate's court charged with defrauding a physically-challenged man.

Through false pretence of getting travel documents for Mr Christian Gbere to travel to the United States for medical treatment and also to secure a job for his daughter, he obtained GH¢ 1,200 from him.

The plea of Aselivi was not taken and he was remanded in prison custody until November 26.

Police Inspector D.T. Nartey said the complainant, a physically challenged bicycle repairer, and the accused lived at Akyem Osenase.

He said Asilivi visited Mr Gbere's shop frequently and in February last year, during one of his visits, Aselivi told the complainant that he had seen how he was struggling with life and that he had discussed his problem with an uncle based in the United States who had agreed to come and take him there for medical treatment.

Aselivi convinced the complainant that he had also spoken with one of his relatives working in a shipping company to assist the complainant's daughter who was about to complete school to get employed in the company.

Based on the presentations, Aselivi collected sums of money amounting to GH¢ 1,300 from Mr Gbere to process travelling documents and job for his daughter.

The accused failed to honour his promises and a report was made to the police and he was later arrested.
