The Alliance for the Advancement of Democracy (AAD) wishes to condemn Dr. Nyaho-Nyaho Tamakloe and Prof. Mike Ocquaye for their cynical and misanthropic claims which have the propensity to destabilize the peace and security of this nation.
Dr. Nyaho-Nyaho Tamakloe, officially launching his bid for the Greater Accra Regional Chairmanship of the NPP on Tuesday, 17th November, 2009, categorically stated that, “…the coming elections in 2012 is not going to be a conventional one, it will be a guerrilla war”. In furtherance to that, he touted himself as having what it takes to lead the war. This metaphorical comparison of Election 2012 to a 'guerrilla war' imputes a malicious and cynical motive to deploy paramilitary agents and civilians to employ tactics of insurgency, rebellion, or uprising against an established government.
The threat of Dr. Nyaho-Nyaho Tamakloe was compounded by the Second Deputy Speaker of parliament and the MP for Dome-Kwabenya, Prof. Mike Ocquaye who also asserted that; there NDC was training commandos outside the normal security service for their parochial use. This unmeritorious comment of this purported astute politician, lecturer, man of God, legislator and a diplomat (Ghana's former ambassador to India) is a sheer case of speculative thinking which has the propensity to dangerously fuel and fan political tension and violence.
Dr. Nyaho-Nyaho Tamakloe ,Prof. Mike Ocquaye who until recently served as Ghana's Ambassadors Serbia –Montenegro and India respectively in the erstwhile NPP-led government; are as per such credentials, perceived to be diplomats and politicians of high social standing.
AAD considers the statements of Dr. Nyaho-Nyaho Tamakloe and Prof. Mike Ocquaye as distasteful, irresponsible, and callous and a threat to national security. We are therefore calling on the appropriate National security agency to probe into their averments with utmost urgency and interest. These are political leaders of the largest opposition party in the country (and have large following) who expressed these dangerous sentiments on the same day and any attempt to treat their comments with contempt could be disastrous to our volatile and polarized political environment and national peace.
In our quest to consolidate our democracy, people must not disguise themselves as politicians and preach violence since such malicious, unsavory, unscrupulous and barbaric remarks can dangerously threaten and regrettably have an incalculable and calamitous effect(s) on our democratic credentials and national security.
As Apostles of Democracy, AAD recognizes that any act of an individual or group of persons which militate against the spirit and letter of the laws of Ghana must be condemned. The 1992 Constitution of the Republic Of Ghana enjoins the citizenry to enjoy and exercise their natural and inalienable rights. As a matter of principle, ones rights must concurrently be exercised with his responsibility and the two are not mutually exclusive. Arbitrariness and negligence of one's duties or responsibilities could lead to a civil or criminal action backed by a force of law. Just as the state is required to create the enabling environment to protect and ensure that we freely discharge our rights, the citizenry is unconditionally expected to be responsible.
Long Live Ghana, Long Live Democracy, Long Live AAD!!!
Yours faithfully,
