Chinese Company, Meluim Ghana Limited, has defaulted Vat payment to the tune of a whooping sum of $712,970.13 as at February 2009. The Company located at East Legon, are distributors of Chinese herbal medicine.

Investigation conducted by your reliable newspaper The Daily Searchlight, revealed that the Madina Office of the Vat Service accessed the Company to the tune of Ghc 60,075.32. However,

According to a source closed to the Daily Searchlight indicates that the client claimed that he had earlier made a report to the Madina VAT Service and they only assessed Ghc 60,075.32 which was not in the agreement with the documentary facts at his disposal, Following the report to RAGB, an investigation was conducted which exposed a massive tax under-declaration on the part of the Meilum Ghana Limited. A situation which led the BNI to arrest the clearing agent of the Company. Other malpractices exposed the differences between the figures which appeared on the import documents and those of the Gcnet.

Victor Obeng Ampah, head of Madina VSO, confirmed to this reporter that, although the Chinese Company owed the Vat Service, they had been given an ultimatum to settle their bills or face legal action. In response the Company has so far paid all the 2006, 2007 and 2008 outstanding areas owed to the Vat Service,

When this reporter contacted officials of Meluim Ghana Limited they did not deny defaulting payment adding that some payments have been made and that arrangements have been agreed upon for the settlement of the difference.
