The Board Chairman of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) has been directed by the National Media Commission (NMC) to recall Mr. William Ampem-Darko to resume duty immediately as Director-General of the corporation.

A statement signed by the Chairman of the NMC, Mr. Paul Adu-Gyamfi, Wednesday and copied to Mr. Ampem-Darko and the Deputy Director-General, Mr. Kwabena Sarpong Anane, also directed the Deputy Director-General, who was acting while Mr. Ampem-Darko was on leave, to hand over to him immediately.

The NMC also requested the GBC board to furnish it with information with regard to ongoing matters in the corporation within 48 hours.

The GBC boss a couple of months ago was directed by the GBC Board to take his accummulated leave.

But upon resumption for duty, the Board Chairman issued another letter asking Mr Ampem-Darko to proceed on a compulsory leave.

Reports say he didn't take the directive kindly and that he intended to protest the action of the Board Chairman.

There were also reports of tension on the premises of GBC as anti-Ampem-Darko workers of the corporation threatened to block him from entering the facility with the pro Ampem-Darko workers vowing to resist any attempt to physically prevent him from taking his office.

The NMC, which is constitutionally mandated to insulate the national broadcaster from governmental control, is puting its feet on the ground to protect the GBC boss.
