A Member of the National Research Team of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Anthony Abayifaa Karbo has identified the “unresolved internal wranglings and divisions” as potential factors that could shatter the dream of the party in winning back power from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2012.
He said even though the NDC had obviously failed within its first year to address the socio-economic needs of Ghanaians, the NPP still required a strong and united front to wrestle power from them, and thus challenged the party activists from the top to the bottom to move into action now.
Mr. Karbo who used the opportunity to announce his intention to contest as NPP National Youth Organiser in the coming congress at a press briefing in Tamale, also challenged the teaming party youth to strongly wage war against any leading member whose demeanour and unguided utterances sought to create more division and disintegration within the party, rather than uniting members for victory.
The Young but outspoken youthful politician, was particularly unhappy about the inability of the NPP officialdom to bring all the warring factions, especially “the Alan and Nana's factions” together to fight for victory in the last election.
He further bemoaned that the NPP also allowed the then largest opposition party, the NDC, to propagate a lot of falsehood that eventually branded the NPP as an “Akan party”.
This, Mr. Karbo observed, had an effect on the popularity of the NPP in the three Northern Regions, the Brong Ahafo and part of the Volta Region, leading to the avoidable defeat of the NPP.
According to him, the party also did very little or nothing to assist the party foot soldiers who were the actual labourers and shakers of the party at the grassroots level.
The former Students leader at the University for Development Studies (UDS) hinted that his unshakable tenacity to lead the youth wing of the NPP was influenced by his resolve to unite the youth to have a collective mind and loud voice to push the leaders to go for the needed results in 2012.
He said his administration would ensure that the capacities of the youth were properly built and provided with the requisite support to become self-reliance so as to contribute effectively to the development of the party and the nation Ghana.
