The reconstituted Northern Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) has been inaugurated in Tamale. The event was aimed at further strengthening the decentralisation process in the region.

The Council is however made up of all twenty (20) District, Municipal and Metropolitan Chief Executives and their Presiding Members, two (2) representatives of the Regional House of Chiefs, the Regional Coordinating Director as Secretary and the Northern Regional Minister as Chairman.

The Council would, among other things, ensure the smooth coordination of activities bordering on development, peace, security and other issues in the region.

The Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Stephen Sumani Nayina, urged the members to work hard to redeem the image of the region, by calling off the frequent violence and bloodbaths emanating from politics, and particularly chieftaincy.

This he said would pave way for accelerated socio-economic development.

Stephen Sumani Nayina charged the Northern Regional House of Chiefs, which is saddled with chieftaincy disputes as old as five years, to expedite action in disposing them off.

He said peace in the region now depends on the chiefs, and urged them to act now.

A Member of the Council of State, Kpan-Naa M. B. Bawa, in his address, urged members of the reconstituted Council to redirect their energies towards the fight against all the negative things such as diseases, conflicts, poverty, in order to create a conducive environment for investors.
