Accra, July 2, GNA- Akrowa Aged Life Foundation, (AALF) a non-governmental organisation (NGO) committed to the welfare of the aged in society, has donated medical equipment to Tari Number One Health Centre in the West Gonja District of the Northern Region.

The centre was built by Barclays Bank Ghana Limited, in collaboration with the Ghana Red Cross Society and the Ministry of Health. The bank donated 75,000 dollars for the project.

Mr. Benjamin Dabrah, Managing Director of the Bank, who received the donation on behalf the organisation, said the gesture was historic because it was the first time the financial entity had received assistance rather than providing support or investment to a community or organisation.

He said the bank had undertaken several activities to raise funds for the installation of a solar power system for the centre.

He thanked AALF for the donation and urged other NGOs to assist the centre to ensure that health care is delivered to the remote areas of the country.

Mr. Collins Wood, International Director of AALF said the NGO was committed to ensure that elderly people in the African society were not branded as witches and wizards.

“We want a situation where the society gives much support to the elderly for them to have a sense of belonging,” he said.

Mr. Wood urged government to come out with a clear-cut policy to combat the challenges facing the elderly in society and provide academic facilities that would educate people to handle them professional.
