The number registered on my phone is 0243358236 and the time was 04.03. Date of call reads 15th December, 2008.
I wonder why someone should choose such an ungodly hour to disturb his/her fellow human being with his threats and intimidation. I f the person has problems sleeping, why should he drag others to partake in his problem. On second thought, I realized the intruder was perfectly right in making me a participant in his problem. After all, I have not forgotten the saying that “the comfort of our misery is to have associates in such sufferings”. But if at all it is true, why should I be the target?
As usual, the caller asked if he was speaking to Daniel, to which I responded, “ Yes, Daniel is listening”. The mysterious man at the other end told me he knew I was a big gun in the NPP, but I corrected him and told him I was just an ordinary but committed party activist. “Never mind!” he said. He asked where he could meet me. I asked him why he wanted to meet me. He said he had some very sensitive party matters to discuss with me, which could not be discussed on the phone. I told him, in that case he should contact the nearest party office and I was sure they would be of much help to him than I could.
This did not go down well with him for he said, “Daniel, I have about fifty five NDC members some of who are with me as I speak now. These people are ready to vote for your candidate. All we are asking from you are pictures of Akufo-Addo and some money to seal the deal. Tell me where I could meet you to finalise the agreement.
I told the voice I was not that stupid to reveal my place of abode to him, and asked what was the guarantee that he might not be a would-be assassin who wanted to use guile and deceit to extract some personal information from me to enable him strike at the opportune moment. He said I should not be afraid for I was dealing with a perfect gentleman who would always stand by his side of the bargain. “When are you sending me the money? Tell them to send the money and you have my word the NDC people will vote for your candidate. If you don't' the people will disperse and both your party and I will be the losers.
I told him the New Patriotic Party does not dole out money to people so as to influence them into voting in a particular way and that committed NPP members love and cherish the ideals and principles of the party to make them vote for the it at all times. I also added that this has been the major reason why the party has been a force to reckon with in the country. I told him as a matter of fact that I didn't have money to give to him or anybody and that he should contact the hierarchy of the party for assistance.
“We need the money. After all you have more than you need. Just tell them to give you the money and tell me when I could come for it and you'll have our votes. 55 NDC votes! Quite a lot. Just think how this will affect the fortunes of your party”.
The unseen man at the other end of the line kept rumbling on and on. I had become extremely exasperated and realized that words about to flow from my mouth would not be palatable if I did not check myself. At that stage, I felt I had had enough and so decided to end the conversation, which had become more or less something like a monologue.
But my man would have none of that. He called again. I could hear some giggling and laughter in the background. Then the bombshell. “Shame unto you and the rest of your people! A “suffer man” like you but pretending to be something else. Shame unto you and all the rest!”
Infact that was the limit of my endurance. I cut off the conversation and to make sure that the phony doesn't have the opportunity to intrude into my sphere of thinking, I switched off the phone altogether.
But the question that has continued to bug my mind is: who owns mobile number
0243358236? Some one should please tell me!
