Former president and 2024 NDC flagbearer John Mahama has promised to conduct a thorough investigation into the controversial PDS scandal if elected into office in 2025.

In a post on Facebook on Friday, May 10, Mahama said it was "disheartening" to learn that $190 million negotiated under the Millennium Challenge Compact for private participation in electricity distribution had been lost due to "corrupt, 'yenkyendi' and cronyistic governance practices" under the current Akufo-Addo administration.

"This is unacceptable, and we deserve better as a people," Mahama posited.

He added: "As I gear up to assume the presidency in January 2025, thanks to your votes and endorsement in this year's election, I want to assure you that I will work diligently to enhance private sector efficiency in the electricity distribution system, including metering, revenue management, and fault response."

Mahama stressed: "My administration will prioritise accountability and ensure a thorough investigation of the PDS scandal to hold those involved accountable."

The PDS scandal emerged in 2019 after the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) terminated its concession agreement with PDS after it allegedly presented invalid insurance security for the takeover of ECG assets.

The company was initially supposed to furnish the ECG with payment securities in the form of either a demand guarantee or a letter of credit issued by a bank.

The opposition NDC has accused government officials including Vice President and NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of wrongdoing in the deal, claims the NPP government continue to deny.
