The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has confirmed that no lives were lost and no property was destroyed during last week's incident involving a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanker in Dadieso, in the Ashanti region.

A statement issued by the NPA's corporate affairs directorate on Monday revealed that the LPG tanker, belonging to the state-owned Burkina Faso company SONABHY, was transporting gas to Burkina Faso when it was involved in an accident on Friday, May 3.

This sparked anxiety among local residents over potential dangers from the hazardous product and led to protests blocking the nearby Accra-Kumasi highway.

"Upon receiving the information, the NPA communicated same to the Management of SONABHY and instructed them to dispatch an empty tanker and a pumping vehicle to evacuate the product," said the NPA statement.

With SONABHY's vehicles some distance away in Ouagadougou, the NPA arranged for a private company to begin evacuating the gas.

SONABHY's empty tanker and pump, according to the NPA, later arrived on Saturday to complete the transfer.

"The NPA can confirm that there were no incidents leading to the loss of human lives and destruction of properties as speculated in the social media," the statement assured.

The NPA expressed gratitude "to all who assisted in diverse ways to make the evacuation of the LPG successful."
