Bawumia's fisheries policy a game-changer for fishing communities — Richard Ahiagbah

Richard Ahiagbah, National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), says Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's fisheries policy promises to significantly improve the lives of people in Ghana's fishing communities.

In a post on Monday, May 6, via X, praising the NPP flagbearer's vision, Ahiagbah wrote "Bawumia's promise to implement policies to promote and maximize our fishery resources from the sea, inland, and aquaculture will bring about a significant change for my people, offering them new opportunities and a better future."

As someone from a fishing community himself, Ahiagbah believes the Vice President's plans for the fisheries sector present a "game-changer" that will benefit both fish farmers and consumers across the country.

"His vision is a game-changer for us, and I am excited to see how it will unfold," stated Ahiagbah. "Let's vote for Bawumia and the NPP on December 7th to ensure the implementation of this policy, which will benefit fishing communities and Ghanaians."

In a statement issued on Sunday, May 5, the NPP campaign team noted that “The plan will support industrial, semi-industrial and the artisanal subsectors and address major concerns such as inefficient distribution of pre-mix fuel, inadequate cold storage facilities, overfishing and depletion of fish stocks, illegal unreported fishing, access to credit and financial services.”

The NPP leader has also promised to further enhance the efforts in the automation of the Pre-mix distribution through ongoing digitization efforts to ensure equity and deepen transparency.

“We shall enhance the Ministry of Fisheries progress on continuous innovation, digitization, and improved access to the technology of the Fisheries sector embracing climate-smart technologies of processing, value addition and marketing of fish,” adds the statement.
