The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ministry of Education, Kwasi Kwarteng has justified why the Ministry of Education (MoE) has decided to change the uniforms of public basic schools.

Speaking at a forum dubbed “The free SHS story” in Accra on Tuesday, April 23, Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum revealed plans by the Ministry to introduce blue and white uniforms for public basic schools.

“We are switching to blue and white. This forms part of a rebranding plan meant to improve the schools’ visual appeal.

“We are changing the uniforms of public basic schools in the country. The yellow and brown that you see now, you will see no more. Reformation is coming to a community near you, and you will see it,” the Education Minister said.

This has not been well accepted by Ghanaians with many people asking the Ministry of Education to focus on improving infrastructure in the basic schools instead.

But speaking to Citi News on Friday evening, the PRO of the Ministry, Kwasi Kwarteng said the move is important.

He argued that it would ensure people now have confidence in public basic schools and will no longer look down on them.

“The Ministry of Education is not changing uniforms for all public basic schools. Neither is the Ministry re-paining existing schools. It is important to situate what the Minister said in the right context.

“The Minister was referring to the newly built ones and what he meant was that they will be given a facelift in terms of their appearance and outlook to enhance public confidence in those public basic schools because naturally a lot of people do not place value on our public basic schools,” Kwasi Kwarteng said.
