The Member of Parliament (MP) of Wa Central, Rashid Pelpuo has argued that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) cannot be blamed for the persistent, irregular, and unpredictable electric power outages (dumsor) being experienced in the country.

He opines that government should be blamed for the power crisis, indicating that dumsor has returned because of the irresponsibility of political leaders.

“ECG is not to blame, it’s the lack of responsibility of political leaders. We still have about a billion dollars in debt,” Rashid Pelpuo lamented in an interview with TV3.

Since February, Ghana has experienced persistent, irregular, and unpredictable electric power outages.

Although power experts and members of the minority in parliament have attributed the ‘dumsor’ to a financial problem, government has insisted that it is not the case.

Government officials argue that the country is not back in a dumsor era.

The Electricity Company of Ghana has also denied shedding load, explaining that the outages being experienced are caused by various faults that are being worked on.

As a result, calls for a load-shedding table to help Ghanaians plan their activities have been rubbished by Energy Minister Mathew Opoku Prempeh.
