The Sunyani Police Command has arrested one suspect in connection with an armed robbery attack on Tuesday evening that left a student of University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) dead.
A gang of armed robbers waylaid some Level 300 and 400 BSc. Renewable Energy Engineering students of UENR during their return from a field trip to the Bui Power Authority on Tuesday, April 16, at around 7:00pm according to a statement from the university.
The statement signed by Deputy Registrar Alfred O Appiah indicated that "tragically, one student lost his life as a result of the incident."
It further said "A suspect has been apprehended by the Sunyani Police Command Team."
The identity of the deceased student is being withheld but the family members have been properly notified.
The remaining students who were attacked received medical treatment at a hospital and have since been discharged.
The school said they are currently undergoing counselling to help them process the trauma.
Authorities have called on residents around the university campus and its environs to be on high alert for any suspicious persons and promptly report such incidents to the police.
