The Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak has assured that the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy will thrive under the leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama.

In a statement issued on social media, Dr. Apaak who is also the Deputy Ranking Member on the Education Committee of Parliament debunked claims by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) that Mr. Mahama intends to cancel the Free SHS policy if elected.

"Why would JDM waste precious time by engaging the heads of our secondary schools to discuss how to resolve challenges bedevilling the implementation of the FSHS policy if he intends to cancel FSHS?" he quizzed.

The MP indicated that at a meeting with the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) on April 8, 2024, Mr. Mahama promised to work with stakeholders to address challenges affecting teaching and learning in secondary schools.

"He restated his intention to convene a national stakeholders forum to deliberate on the FSHS Programme as a first step towards reviewing it to make it better," Dr. Apaak noted.

Dr. Apaak further accused the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, of pushing "the stale and impotent lie, that JDM will collapse FSHS" despite representing the government in admitting to the IMF that the policy will be reviewed.

He stressed that "FSHS will thrive and blossom under JDM as President because he will work with stakeholders to fix the challenges."
