The National Chief Imam of Ghana Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu has confirmed that Muslims in Ghana will celebrate the Eid-ul-Fitr festival on Thursday, April 11.

Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan and is one of the most important festivals in the Islamic calendar.

In a statement released by the Office of the National Chief Imam, it said "As has been the practice with us in Ghana since about thirty-two years ago whether the moon is sighted or not our EID-CELEBRATION will come off on THURSDAY 11TH APRIL, 2024."

The statement signed by National Executive Secretary Awaisu Salisu Bio added that the first sighting of the moon for the month of Shawwal will be done on Tuesday, April 9, but celebrations will still be held on Thursday, April 11, following the established practice.

"All Regional Imams and the general public are to take note of this,” noted the statement.

The confirmation of the Eid date comes after the Ministry of Interior announced earlier this week that April 11, will be observed as a national holiday to honour the Islamic festival.
