Kofi Asare, Executive Director of the Africa Education Watch has called on the Ghana Police Service to arrest Nungua Wulomo, the 63-year-old Nuumo Borketey Laweh Tsuru XXXIII for getting married to a 12-year-old girl.

The education advocate says the act is illegal despite the excuse that the child, named Naa Okromo, will not perform conjugal duties.

In a Facebook post on Monday, April 1, Mr. Asare wrote: “The law says it is illegal to marry the 12-year-old girl. The excuse that she won’t be performing conjugal duties is immaterial to the law. The cops must grab the Nungua Wulomo and cohorts now!”

This comes in the wake of reports that Nungua Gborbu Wulomo has taken 12-year-old Naa Okromo as his wife in accordance with GaDangme customs.

According to a pro-GaDangme news blog on Facebook, Ablade TV Online, the Gborbu Wulomo of Nungua, Nuumo Borketey Laweh Tsuru XXXIII, who is 63 years old, married a 12-year-old young girl named Naa Okromo on Saturday, March 30.

According to reports, Naa Okromo will henceforth be called Naa Ayemoede, in accordance with local customs. She is anticipated to take part in a second customary ceremony centred on purification.

This procedure is supposed to empower her to fulfil her anticipated responsibilities as Gborbu Wulomo's wife, which include bearing children.
