The Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) has cautioned African governments against using insecurity as a justification for undermining democracy.

Dr Kojo Pumpuni Asante, the Advocacy and Policy Engagement Director at CDD-Ghana, emphasized the importance of African nations maintaining democratic standards and principles during an interview on the Point of View on Citi TV with Bernard Avle on Wednesday.

He highlighted the necessity for African nations to be honest and straightforward to prevent exacerbating the continent’s security situation.

He was discussing concerns about insecurity in Africa and its connection to democracy.

Dr. Asante emphasised the importance of fair and competitive processes to ensure credibility during elections.

“If we are not going to be truthful and forthright about what kind of standards are needed, we will just keep creating an even worse problem.

“We have to speak up, we have to speak truth to power. For competitive processes when it is fair most people will walk away and say hands up and say yes I lost,” he stated.
