Finance Minister Dr Mohammed Amin Adam has paid tribute to his late deputy John Ampontuah Kumah.

He described him as a "valued and cherished colleague".

He had been unwell since last November and was scheduled to travel to Germany for further treatment.

In a statement expressing his deep sadness, Dr Amin Adam said: "He was a valued and cherished colleague whose humility, selflessness, and kind and gentle nature, left a deep impression and endeared him to all."

The finance minister praised Dr Kumah's "unwavering dedication and commitment to the cause of fiscal responsibility, economic empowerment for the youth, entrepreneurship, and service".

He added that Dr Kumah "exemplified passion for the youth and tireless efforts towards advancing the nation's economic development."

Dr Amin Adam recalled working closely with Dr Kumah, saying "it has left a profound void in the hearts of all of us who worked with him at the Ministry of Finance."

The late deputy minister previously served as CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, where his impressive work led to his appointment as deputy finance minister in 2021.

As MP for Ejisu, Dr Kumah was a champion for his constituents and was selected as the NPP's candidate for the 2024 elections.

Dr Amin Adam extended his "deepest condolences" to Dr Kumah's family and the people of Ejisu, praising his "legacy of selfless service and commitment."
