Suame MP Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has paid tribute to Deputy Finance Minister John Kumah following his sudden passing.

The former Majority Leader described it as a "tragedy of monumental proportions."

In a Facebook post, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu recalled how he had sat behind Kumah at an NPP manifesto committee meeting just two days ago, seeing him struggle but maintaining his typically "affectionate smile."

"John, Hon John Kumah, Member of Parliament for Ejisu & Deputy Minister For Finance. Just learnt of your passing on, a tragedy of monumental proportions," wrote the veteran lawmaker.

He said Kumah had assured him then that he was "bouncing back strongly" despite his health issues.

“That was just less than 48 hours ago. And you have transitioned? If such is life, then life must be very very cruel!" said Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

The Suame MP paid tribute to Kumah's dedication, saying they had waited on him in December to pass the budget as he received treatment in Germany but made sure to be present.

"When death, which we least expected beckoned; you embraced it..... the warrior that you were," added Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu in his moving tribute.

He prayed for eternal rest for Kumah's soul and comfort for his family, underscoring the loss of a committed colleague.

The unexpected passing of Dr. John Kumah, 45, on Thursday, March 7, came as a huge shock to his party, constituency and the country at large.
