Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has paid tribute to the ex-servicemen who were killed in one of Ghana's darkest episodes on February 28, 1948.

During the 76th anniversary of the infamous "Christiansborg Crossroads Shooting", Dr. Bawumia joined a ceremony hosted by the Veterans Association of Ghana to honor the memory of Sergeant Adjetey, Corporal Attipoe and Private Odartey Lamptey on Wednesday, February 28.

The three men proudly served in the Gold Coast Regiment alongside British troops during World War II.

However, upon returning home, they found no support from the colonial government despite promises of employment and pensions.

Struggling in poverty, around 50 veterans organized a peaceful march to the Governor's residence, Christiansborg Castle, to present a petition airing their grievances.

Tragically, at the entrance, Superintendent Colin Imray reacted with unacceptable brutality.

Reports state he refused the veterans' entry and then proceeded to snatch a gun and open fire at the protest leaders in a shocking display of violence.

Sergeant Adjetey, Corporal Attipoe and Private Lamptey paid for their advocacy with their lives.

In a social media post after the ceremony, Vice President Bawumia wrote, "I joined the Veterans Association of Ghana (VAG) to commemorate the 76th anniversary of the 28th February 1948 Christiansborg crossroads shooting incident of some ex-servicemen at the Cenotaph, Nationalism Park, Osu. May the souls of the gallant veterans continue to rest in peace."
