The Governments of Ghana and the Commonwealth of The Bahamas have signed a visa waiver agreement.

The move will allow citizens of both countries to travel between the two nations without obtaining a visa in advance.

The agreement, signed on January 31, aims to facilitate travel and boost tourism by removing barriers for Ghanaians visiting The Bahamas and Bahamians traveling to Ghana.

The agreement will apply to holders of diplomatic, official or ordinary passports from Ghana and The Bahamas.

It notifies relevant aviation authorities and airlines of the change in requirements so travellers are not inconvenienced.

"The waiver aims to forestall challenges and inconveniences faced by uninformed travelers between Ghana and the Bahamas," the statement from Ghana's Immigration Service noted.

The visa waiver agreement takes immediate effect and is expected to strengthen economic and people-to-people links between Ghana and The Bahamas through increased tourism and travel flows both ways.
