Agona East, Agona West, and Gomoa Central Assembly last Sunday disinfected market centers and other public places as Covid-19 cases surge with a call on Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies to intensify public awareness of the pandemic.

The Central Regional Environmental Health Officer, Mr. William Freeman Goku made the call when he monitored the just ended disinfection exercise in the region.

He commended the three Assemblies for their commitment towards the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in their operational areas.

Mr. William Freeman Goku stated these when he was interacting with newsmen at Agona Swedru recently.

He encouraged other Assemblies in the region to emulate the aforementioned Assemblies not only to fight against Covid-19 but to boost personal hygiene.

The Agona West Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Mrs. Justina Marigold Assan addressing the Sprayers at Agona Swedru, charged them to execute their assigned duties wholeheartedly.

"This is the Second Phase of the disinfection exercise in Agona West and Ghana as a whole.

His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo led NPP government is committed to the total eradication of Covid-19 Pandemic. This disinfection exercise form part of prudent measures the government has put in place to combat the pandemic.

The government will continue to introduce interventions like sharing of Free Face Masks and Sanitizers, Veronica Buckets, thermometer guns and others to protect the citizenry.

As part of the National Disinfection exercise, the Agona West Municipal Assembly dispatched 20 gangs of Sprayers to disinfect all market centers, lorry stations, community centers, public toilets and other public places in the communities In the Municipality.

I must commend Hon. Mrs. Cynthia Morrison, our Member of Parliament, Nananom, Market Women, Drivers Artisans, Petty Traders, Assembly Members and other Professional Bodies for their unflinching support to the Assembly"

The MCE called on the people to adhere to all the Covid-19 protocols especially at public gatherings to avoid infections.

"COVID-19 is still with us, we don't have to lose guard, let all be each other's keeper to curtail the spread"

DCE for Agona East, Hon. Dennis Armah Frimpong noted that Agona East District Assembly has taken the fight against Covid-19 Pandemic seriously adding that even though thousands of Face masks and Sanitizers have been provided to individuals, groups, associations, churches, and mosques, checkpoints have been mounted on all four corners of the road network to the District.

Addressing the spraying team at separate locations at Agona Nsaba, Asafo, Kwanyarko, Duakwa, and Mensakrom, the DCE stressed the need for them to touch base with public places where people carried out their daily activities.

"Our refusal to observe Covid-19 protocols such as wearing of Face Masks, Social Distancing especially at the private burial and Market Centers, regular washing of our hand and the use of hand Sanitizers have led to the rise of the pandemic not only in the Agona East District but Ghana as a whole.

...The Agona East District Assembly has intensified its public education campaign to create awareness that the pandemic still exists in our Homes and Communities. The Disinfection exercise is a booster to the fight against Covid-19 Pandemic in Agona East District"

Hon. Dennis Armah Frimpong further disclosed that the Assembly was in touch with the traditional authorities and opinion leaders in the Communities to sensitize the people about the second wave of the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Presiding Member for Gomoa Central District Assembly, Hon. Kweku Nyarko Koomson briefing newsmen soon after the disinfection exercise disclosed that the Assembly Disinfected all the public places in the 34 Communities.

According to the Presiding Member, Information Service Department as well as National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) was viciously intensifying public education on the pandemic and the need for the people to stay safe and healthy.

"Nananom, Religious Leaders, Groups, and Associations have been supportive in this direction not forgetting our workaholic Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central Constituency, Hon. Naana Eyiah constantly provides PPEs for protection and safety. This collaboration is facilitating the fight against Covid-19 infections in Gomoa Central District"
