Voter registration exercise: Some of your errors are unpardonable, cannot be understood; be warned —Dr Otchere-Ankrah to EC

Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah, a Governance lecturer at Central University, has admonished the Electoral Commission (EC) to be cautious about its activities, especially concerning errors in the computation and collation of figures in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.

The EC has recently faced intense criticism for inaccuracies in tabulating the number of registrants on days two and three of the ongoing limited registration exercise.

These errors have sparked public outcry and concerns about the commission's credibility.

In reaction to the backlash, the EC issued an apology and corrected the mistakes. The commission's statement read, "The Electoral Commission has corrected errors in the previously released daily voter registration numbers.

“The inaccuracies were in the cumulative totals for days two and three, though the regional numbers were correct. The Upper East’s day three total was mistakenly repeated for day four. These have been amended."

Dr. Otchere-Ankrah, speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show, expressed his frustration with the EC's recurring errors in simple arithmetic.

He emphasized that while human error is understandable, the commission's mistakes are particularly problematic and could lead to significant issues.

"Some of the errors you commit are unpardonable...Though you are human and can make mistakes, there are some mistakes that you do which cannot be understood. You have to be extremely careful," Dr. Otchere-Ankrah expressed.
