‘No surgeries were cancelled at our facility due to Dumsor’ — Korle Bu Teaching Hospital

No surgeries were cancelled at our facility due to Dumsor — Korle Bu Teaching Hospital

Management of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in the Greater Accra region has denied claims that surgeries were cancelled at the facility due to recent power outages.

In a statement, the hospital said it experienced a brief low current for about 45 minutes on Monday, April 29 when there was a problem at an ECG substation.

However, the hospital's standby generators immediately kicked in to ensure work continued in the operating theatres without disruption.

"We experienced low current for about 45 minutes. In the face of the low current that emanated from a problem at one of the substations of ECG, our functional standby generators came on stream and provided power for work to continue until the problem was resolved," the statement dated April 29, noted in part.

It added that only two cases at the Department of Surgery were returned to the ward at the end of the day due to limited space in the recovery ward, not because of any power outage.

"As a leading national referral hospital, we wish to assure our patients and the general public that we prioritize their care and will continue to work to provide excellent services to address their health needs," the statement further assured.

The facility has appealed to the media to verify reports before publishing to avoid undermining public confidence in the health sector.
