The residents of Avetakpo, a community nestled in the Volta region's Ho West district, are expressing deep frustration over the lack of development in their area since its inception.

According to the community members, numerous efforts to attract development projects through the district assembly and their Member of Parliament have yielded no results, leaving them in dire need of essential social amenities crucial for improving their quality of life.

In response to the perceived neglect, a town hall meeting was convened to highlight these issues to the relevant authorities. The farming community, which shares boundaries with Juapong in the North Tongu District and Mafi in the Central Tongu District, expressed their disappointment at the lack of progress.

Notably, they issued a challenge to Hon. Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, the Member of Parliament for the Ho West Constituency, urging him to address their concerns promptly. Failure to do so, they warned, could compel them to seek representation from their respective mother constituencies, North Tongu and Central Tongu, once the limited registration period opens in May.

Speaking on behalf of the community leaders, Mr. Jonas Tornye, the community Youth leader, emphasized the neglect of the Ho West Assembly, which has left them devoid of essential developmental projects.

Chiefs and elders of Avetakpo voiced their grievances over the absence of critical infrastructure such as a clinic, clean drinking water, proper roads, and electricity. These basic amenities, they lamented, have been long-awaited and sorely needed in their community.

Residents pointed out the stark disparity between the promises made by politicians during election campaigns and the subsequent lack of action once they secure public support. Despite these unfulfilled pledges, the community remains plagued by underdevelopment.

During a survey of the area, abandoned electricity poles intended to provide power to the community were observed, alongside an unused groundwater source for drinking water. Additionally, the community's roads are in deplorable condition, exacerbating their plight. Furthermore, a community CHPS compound project initiated by Hon. Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah remains stalled despite its commencement sixteen years ago.
