Ghanaian songstress Sista Afia has expressed her disappointment and frustration after not receiving any nominations from the prestigious Ghana Music Awards. In a heartfelt message posted on her Facebook page, she questioned the decision of the board members and pondered whether she had offended anyone within the organization.
"Have I offended someone at the high table Ghana Music Awards? The fact that Asuoden was a big song in 2021, zero nominations which I still don’t get," she wrote.
Sista Afia's hit song "Asuoden" gained significant traction throughout 2021, leading many to believe she would be recognized for her musical achievements. However, to her dismay, she found herself absent from the list of nominees.
"I learnt people don’t even fill for nominations but get nominations, the downplay on my efforts ever since I started doing music in Ghana hasn’t been fair to my craft. And Yes it hurts because I work soo hard," she continued.
The talented artist highlighted the perceived disparity in the nomination process, suggesting that some artists may receive nominations without officially applying, while others who work tirelessly are overlooked. This revelation sheds light on potential discrepancies within the Ghana Music Awards selection process, prompting discussions about fairness and transparency.
"I’ve been quiet for soo long because I didn’t want to step on no one’s toes!" Sista Afia concluded, expressing her reluctance to speak out against the perceived injustice until now.
While the Ghana Music Awards remain one of the most esteemed in the country's music scene, Sista Afia's experience highlights the challenges and frustrations faced by artists striving for recognition and validation.
